Tools for Student - Student and Teacher - Student Collaboration
Abstract: Learning is fun when it is social. In this session, participants will learn how to engage students in collaborative learning in and out of the classroom using their computers and/or smart phones. The focus will be on tools that enhance student -student and teacher - student collaboration.
Target audience:
- English language teachers of every age group
- Teacher training staff
Session objectives:
- By the end of this session, participants will have learned about and practiced using audio, video, images, and text tools for student collaboration.
- By the end of the session, participants will be proficient at creating VoiceThreads, Google Drive (text, slides, forms, and sheets), feedback using Kaizena, and Padlet.
- By the end of the session, participants will have created collaborative learning activities for their English language learners (ELL) in and out of the classroom.
Week 1: January 11-17
Participants will introduce themselves using Voicethread.
Week 2: January 18 - 24
Google word text docs and Kaizena for student feedback using audio.
Participants will create a Google word text doc on a topic of their choice and comment on each others' docs using text and audio by means of Kaizena.
Week 3: January 25 - 31
Google Slides
Participants will create a Google presentation on a topic of their choice.
Week 4: February 1 - 7
Google forms and spreadsheets for student team projects
Week 5: February 8 - 14

Nellie Deutsch, Ed.D. is a Canadian long distance teacher, runner, and healer. She has been teaching EFL in the public school system and at universities for over 40 years. Her teaching expertise include junior high school (ages 12-15) team leadership and adult teacher development. She also practices mindfulness, the Alexander Technique, the Paula Method, and Reiki in and out of the classroom.
