Tools for Student Collaboration (T4SC)



Abstract:  Learning is fun when it is social. In this session, participants will team up and learn how to engage students in collaborative learning in and out of the classroom using their computers and/or smart phones. The focus will be on Google drive (text, presentation, and forms), curation (Padlet, Miro, Wakelet), and Moodle tools that enhance student collaboration

 

Weekly digital badges and a final certificate will be available for participants who complete the tasks.  


Target audience:

 

  • English language teachers of every age group
  • Faculty and teacher training staff 

Session objectives:

 

  • By the end of this session, participants will have learned about and practiced using audio, video, images, and text tools for student collaboration.
  • By the end of the session, participants will have used video recorders such as Vimeo, Screencast-o-matic, and Flipgrid, Google Drive (text, slides, forms, and sheets), Wakelet, Miro, and Padlet, Voki and Quizlet.
  • By the end of the session, participants will have created collaborative learning activities for their English language learners (ELL) in and out of the classroom. 


Week 1: January 11-17 

Participants will introduce themselves using Flipgrid, Voki, Vimeo, and Screencast-o-matic and team up using a group selection activity.


Week 2: January 18 - 24 

 

Google word text docs and add Quizlet as an activity.

Participants will work in teams or individually to create a Google word text doc on a topic of their choice related or unrelated to their work and comment on each others' docs using text and audio with videos using Flipgrid, Vimeo, Screencast-o-matic.  


Week 3: January 25 - 31

 

Google Slides and other collaborative tools

Participants will work in teams or individually to create a Google presentation on a topic of their choice related or unrelated to their work and comment on each others' slides using  text, audio, and videos using Flipgrid, Vimeo, Screencast-o-matic.


Week 4: February 1 - 7

 

Google forms and spreadsheets for student team projects and use text, audio, and videos using Flipgrid, Vimeo, Screencast-o-matic for feedback.

Participants will work in teams or individually.


Week 5: February 8 - 14
Reflections of the session using Flipgrid, Vimeo, Screencast-o-matic, or Padlet/Wakelet/Miro 
using text, audio, and videos using Flipgrid, Vimeo, Screencast-o-matic. 


Media: How will you communicate with participants during the session? Write in all that apply. (You don't need all of them!)  Be as specific as you are able at this stage. You may make changes during the training session. Remember: you may not require participants to pay for using these platforms. Participation in EVO is free. If you have no idea which platforms you will use, write We don’t know yet.
