Moodle for Teachers EVO21

Abstract:  

 

Moodle for Teachers EVO21 (M4TEVO21) session will take place on the latest Moodle 3.10 (latest version). Participants will learn how to teach online using resources, activities, and blocks available in a Moodle course as students and practice in the role of a teacher and manager of a course. They will learn to engage in team peer learning, to create video tutorials using Screencast-o-Matic, Vimeo, and ZOOM (screen recording) to document learning and to use in a flipped classroom, and to manage their own Moodle courses. In weeks 2 - 5, participants will work collaboratively to create a team policy and syllabus using Google docs and to develop their own Moodle courses.

Week 1: January 11-17

 

Introduction and Orientation

 

Week 1 Introduction to M4TEVO21, Moodle layout and to the participants, Screencast-o-Matic and Vimeo for screen recording to create video tutorials, and team formation.

 

 

 

Week 2:  January 18 - 24

 

Moodle Resources and Activities

 

In week 2, participants will receive teacher and manager rights, so you can try out the resources and activities available in a Moodle course in the Teacher Practice Area (TPA). They will receive team areas to practice adding resources and activities available on the Moodle. 

 

 

Week 3: January 25 - 31

 

Moodle Blocks and Planning a Collaborative Online Course

 

In week 3, participants will receive rights as managers of a Moodle course and work on the blocks. They will practice in the Manager Practice Area (MPA). They will also start working on their collaborative courses. 

 

 

Week 4: February 1 - 7

 

Collaborative Course Design

 

In weeks 3 - 5, participants will work in teams to design a collaborative course. They will document the process using Screencast-o-Matic and publish the recording as a team on Youtube or Vimeo. 

 

Participants will learn to create and use digital badges and create certificates for their courses that relate to the activities of their Moodle courses. 

 

Week 5: February 8 - 14

 

Showcase and Reflections

 

In week 5, participants will create videos to document their courses, reflect, and share them on Padlet and provide feedback using Flipgrid (video).

Nellie Deutsch, Ed.D. is a Canadian who practices long distance teaching, running, and healing. She has been teaching EFL in the public school system and at universities for over 40 years. Her teaching expertise include junior high school (ages 12-15) team leadership and adult teacher development. She also practices mindfulness, the Alexander Technique, the Paula Method, and Reiki in and out of the classroom.

Harshita Kapoor is the founder of Codewizacademy, an e-learning portal designed and developed for teaching Core programming and IT related skills. She has worked as an educationist, being a faculty at prominent educational institutes in the K-12 sector. She was also entrusted with various special assignments such as content reviewing and instructional designing for school learning solutions. She holds a Masters degree in Computer Application. She also holds various programming certifications, such as OCPJP by Oracle. She is certified as Cyber Crime Investigator by ASCL, India. This helped her deal with Cyberbullying and challenges related to being online, for school students. She has also conducted several seminars on Cyber Security for students, management and parents at the K-12 level.  She is passionate about teaching, mainly programming and related subjects since that is her forte.

Ewa Kozłowska has a Masters in Mechanical-Medical Engineering, an inter-academic field of study run cooperatively by Gdańsk University of Technology and the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland. She started her adventure with e-learning in May 2015 by volunteering inERASMUS+ projects and taking part in Moodle MOOCs. She is currently working on her PhD in mechanical engineering and medical device designing with the use of computer collaboration tools by multidisciplinary specialists.
